The Spotlight committee of HB1 has travelled around again and this time, it has fallen on one dark- skinned unassuming but highly smart and perspicacious lady .And so I’ m sitting in a beautiful room In Georgia Hostel , sipping grape juice and munching Pringles smiling at the lady under the spotlight and she is smiling back.
SC: Can you please tell us your name?
Louisa: Of course! I’ m Louisa Ansong
SC: Beautiful! What is the meaning of Louisa
Louisa: Louisa means “One who fights with honour”
SC: Wow so I can call you Knight Louisa or rather still Lady Louisa
Louisa: I think I’ll accept Lady Louisa[ laughs]
SC: Do you think the meaning of your name has had an effect on your life in anyway?
SC: Lovely Louisa what is your birth date?
Louisa: I was born on 19th January, 1991
SC: That means you are 20.
Louisa: Yes
SC: I’ve met a rare gem- a lady who discloses her age .
Louisa: Well, it’s my age, I don’t think I can hide it.
SC: Could you tell us a bit about your family?
Louisa: I’ m in a family of of five with an older brother who is in 6th year Medical School and a younger brother who is in TIS. My dad is a Dentist and my mum is a Fashion Designer. That’s pretty much it.
SC: Mm, how would you describe your parents?
Louisa: My parents are very loving and supportive. They are the ones who have made me who I am today and they are still supporting me to become that person I want to be. They are the kind of parents who allow their kids to explore and eventually learn from experience. Mind you, not beyond the limit.
SC: Great, so that is the foundation that has made you the Louisa I’ m seeing right now with a broad smile. You know, I love that smile
[Smile grows broader]
SC: What about your Educational Background?
Louisa: I started from Mother Care School in Accra till JHS Three where I was actually the Head girl gunning more than 50% of the votes for that position…
SC: That is a beautiful achievement fueled by your enduring nature, I presume.
Louisa: Probably. I moved to SOS in Tema and finally in KNUST to offer Dental Surgery.
SC: How has KNUST been so far?
Louisa: Right now, I’ll say I’ m enjoying myself. I couldn’t have said that at the beginning of First Semester because moving from a school like SOS where the biggest class I was ever in had a class size of about 25 students to a class of about 300 without so much individual attention from professors. I was wondering how I will ever survive. But the secret has been team work, you know, working in groups and now, I can say I’m comfortable.
SC: What motivated you to choose Dental Surgery?
Louisa: I have always wanted to be a medical practitioner.
SC: Then you are quite different from me who wanted to be a taxi driver when I was little.
Louisa: [laughing] My family is a family of medics; gynaecologists, neurosurgeons, dentists. In fact, I’ve always been on the path of becoming a dentist. SC: You are learning to become a dentist, tell me what do you think will be your single greatest contribution to humanity?
Louisa: I have been saying this since I was little and I hope that I can carry it out. I have always wanted to build an Orphanage. An influence from SOS, my JHS was formally made for Orphans. So I commit this dream to God and pray sincerely I would be able to achieve it.
SC: A golden heart indeed. Let’s digress a bit, what you will be guided by: The Bible, Education or Philosophies.
Louisa: Primarily, the Bible, but a combination of all three won’t be a bad idea
SC: Would you describe yourself as an extrovert?
Louisa: Not exactly, I’ m a shy person, so I’ m far from being an extrovert.
SC: What is your best colour?
Louisa: Actually, I don’t have a favorite colour. I just like bright colours. Looking around, you can see my room is full of bright colours.
SC: Exactly, and this propels us into our special spotty spy glass question of the week and this is about Bagology, the science of Hand bags. A woman without a hand bag is like a a wanderer in the desert. Louisa, what do you think about the article on Bagology, is it absurd or practical?
Louisa: The Article is quite interesting. There are some great facts in there but it presents the Hand bag as though the woman cannot do without it.
SC: Okay Louisa, What does your Hand Bag mean to you?
Louisa: My hand bag means a lot to me. You see, the one I bring to Lectures has my Keys, stationary, Hand Sanitizer, some tissue and some water
SC: Great! Water, that’s life, that’s a lot to carry in your Hand Bag. What influences your choice of Hand Bags?
Louisa: One obviously has to choose a hand bag depending on the time in the day or where one is going to. You know, you can’t take that that hand bag [pointing to her bag for lectures] to a party. Well that is it.
SC: What will you miss most your mobile phone or your Hand bag?
Louisa: Definitely, my mobile phone. Communication with people is very important to me.
SC: Do you have any special way of carrying your Hand Bag?
Louisa: No
SC: Right, enough on hand bags, now to my relationship and grabbing segment. Lady Louisa, are you in a relationship?
Louisa: Do I have to answer this question? Well what I can say is that I am not on the Market, I am ungrabbable.
SC: That’s a well-crafted statement; can you pleased throw more light on it?
Louisa: Please let’s leave it there.
SC: Decision respected, what are your criteria for an ideal man.
Louisa: God fearing, confident, should have a great sense of humour, and physically, tall.
SC: Your Prince Charming. Well SMS gentlemen, you have it. Do you think, there is the eternal and you are working towards it?
Louisa: Absolutely, I do and I am working towards Heaven.
SC: We are almost done, but lastly, what festival do you celebrate?
Louisa: I’ m a Kwahu and so then I can say Easter.
SC: Thanks a lot Louisa for having us.
Louisa: You are welcome.
