Freshmen Orientation 2010

The stage was set for a wonderful encounter. Freshmen sat at the much sort after SMS lecture theatre having now been rewarded for their endless hours of searching.

Prof. Peter Donkor“Finally!!” sighing in excitement at their present status of rest and their imminent adoption into the family that is "The School of Medical Sciences". With a seemingly ambient temperature

and humidity one could hardly account for the buzz of enthusiasm that canvassed the room. Queuing up to receive nuggets of wisdom, explicitly detailed in their Freshmen Brochure  from the School and their MSA Constitutions, the eager faces of these students said it all: WE ARE READY FOR THIS JOURNEY!

The robust and well oiled train that is the MSA executive structure had adequately prepared a befitting hall for such an occasion. A high table decked in the association’s colours and garnished with some floral trinkets and ornaments was the most distinct feature.freshers

As always orientation began strictly on time with a well attended entourage from the College and School administrators. .The event started as scheduled with an opening prayer by the KATH CMF president, Joseph Kwarteng.

The Chairman for the occasion, Prof. Peter Donkor, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences duly welcomed the freshmen in his opening address. He encouraged them to apply themselves  to the courses they were to pursue and  count themselves privileged to be members of the School of Medical sciences and the College of Health Sciences as a whole. The Dean of the school of Medical Sciences, Prof. Kwabena Danso also added his voice to the welcome train.

freshersHe assured freshmen of the tireless effort of the school’s administration to ensure the utmost best at faculty, taking the opportunity to introduce the new lecturer-student tutorship programme now running in SMS. When the high table was done with their speeches, the Medical Students Association took over the reins.

With a moving speech from the president, Isaac Omari, the “Project MSA” working document of his team of leaders was carefully outlined to the freshmen.

This was followed by a quick introduction of all other Association executives and Committee Chairpersons. The speeches then went into overdrive: Descriptions of the MSA committees, Presentations from the Dinner Planning Committee, Big Brother Mentoring Programme, Sports and entertainment committee, Christian Medical fellowship and Muslim Medical students’ association.

A full house of freshmen was in attendance and listened patiently and intently to all who spoke. They sponged on everything being said and seemed poised for the task ahead.

Miss Hannah-Lisa Tetteh, General Secretary of the FGMSA also delivered a splendid presentation on combining academics with a social life.freshers

A true summary of all the freshmen needed to know: That One’s attitude to their course could make all the difference (A+T+T+I+T+U+D+E = 100%)!!!! With a closing prayer by Elipklim Akaho, all were left to mingle amidst some drinks and sandwiches...item 13 no y3.I must say it was a Long, speeches-impregnated affair, but it indeed was worth it.

The advice, the passing jokes and the sandwiches all  made it worthwhile...MSA “Me tu ky3 ma mo”......Freshmen Welcome; Bienvenue; Akwaaba!!!!!!
