His Royal Majesty, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, The Asantehene on Friday 3rd September 2010 paid a working visit to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital to acquaint himself with the operations and challenges of the hospital.
He was accompanied by a large entourage and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Kofi Poku Manu, His Deputy, Hon. Animah Wilson and the KMA Chief Executive, Hon. Samuel Sarpong.
He was received at the entrance of the Accident and Emergency Centre by the Chief Executive of the hospital, Prof. Ohene Frimpong, the Board Chairman, Dr. K. Agyemang Mensah, other members of the board and directors and Heads of Directorates of KATH.
Addressing a large gathering of KATH staff, Otumfuo Osei Tutu stressed his interest in the smooth operation of the hospital and pledged his support in eliminating the challenges facing the hospital.
The Chief Executive of KATH in his welcome address reencountered the various achievements of the hospital and the challenges that are hindering the smooth operation of the hospital.
Among the challenges mentioned were the frequent breakdowns of medical equipments, congestion due to large patient load, lack of space for expansion projects and dilapidated nature of the old Gee blocks.
From the welcoming reception, the Asantehene commissioned and inspected the new special wards of the Accident and Emergency Centre.
He also visited the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Diretorate, the Mother and Baby Unit and the Maternal and Child Health Block which is still under construction 36years after construction began.
